The history of this restaurant goes back to November of 1948 on Capillera street, located in the high quarter of El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), at a grocery store and a tavern known as «Casa Joselito». Business went well and in 1955 the first Bar Jamón was opened, named by the clients themselves due to the size of the cured ham slices offered as tapas. In June of 1989, the family opened LA BODEGUILLA (“the little cellar” in English), a new undertaking in the centre of the city near the rivera, where they had to compete with other famous fish and seafood restaurants, taking over what was once an old coal dispensary with low ceilings that exuded an authentic tavern ambiente. Their activity began with a revolutionary invention, the “PAN DE LA CASA” (“house bread” in English): toasted rustic country bread with high quality olive oil, garlic, tomato and cured Iberian ham. Over the years, the restaurant needed a facelift, and in October of 2006, the building (dating from the end of the 18th century) was restored while maintaining its original architecture. The restaurant was expanded and a pleasant dining room was created in the building’s patio, along with another private dining area on the first floor, thus offering our clients new spaces to enjoy the updated menu.
The flavour of our dishes, our exquisite homemade desserts and the expertise of our cooking staff, together with the loving touch added by the family in their everyday work make La Bodeguilla one of the culinary leaders in El Puerto de Santa María. Since it was founded, we work hard so that you can enjoy varied, exquisite and, above all, authentic Spanish cuisine.
